Animal Cruelty

Animal cruelty, often known as animal abuse, animal maltreatment, or animal negligence, is the imposition of pain or injury upon non-human animals by either human omission (neglect) or human conduct. More specifically, it may relate to doing hurt or creating suffering to attain a particular goal, such as killing animals for amusement. This is known as zoosadism. Cruelty to animals can also refer to doing harm or causing suffering as a means in and of itself.

Various legal systems across the globe take different methods to prohibit animal cruelty. For instance, some regulations control how animals are killed for use as food, clothes, or other items, while others regulate how animals are kept as pets or for entertainment, research, or educational purposes. The problem of animal cruelty may be conceptualized in a variety of ways.

While many agree that certain actions-like animal fighting-are cruel, not all individuals and countries agree on what exactly constitutes cruelty to animals. Many argue that detailing a piglet’s tail without anesthesia is cruel. Others would counter that meat production is a standard practice to protect the pig from injury later in life. Additionally, different countries have different laws regarding animal abuse.
